Friend Foe

Age gave me time to learn
About friendship, I learned a lot
I did not let the bridge burn
You were the one who let it rot
All I have done was live my life
On different paths, our feet would walk
It led me to meet my wife
While we lost the power to talk
Often, my thoughts lead to you
On how our lives have been driven
I feel that I moved and grew
And you found your way to prison
What did you feel when in that cell
At what point was I in your mind
In my deepest thoughts, you dwell
Tangled in my unconscious bind
We may never again have a conversation
Tell jokes we used to share
Because it will not meet our expectation.
Our lives have changed beyond repair.
